Downfall of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam *SPB*

SPB life was not all that hunky dory in the past 15 years or so.  The reason is his son Charan.  After getting his daughter married to a business family Shri Ram chit funds and have her settled in USA, he wanted charan to study and settle down in USA as well.  Charan studied MBA in USA but returned back to India and moreover wanted to venture into films production (a risky business).  SPB had produced a successful film “Hello Brothers” but was not regular in production.  

Charan took production in his hands and paid a hefty amount to remake the Telugu hit prabhas and Trisha starrer “varsham” in Tamil.  Those days jayam Ravi and his brother Mohan raja combo had delivered two successful remake films in Tamil, jayam and kumaran s/o mahalakshmi.  So, Charan signed up jayam Ravi and in place of Trisha he signed up shreya since Trisha was busy that time.  He named the movie as “mazhai” and started the shooting.  Jayam Ravi gave a tough time to Charan and missed his call sheet several times complaining petty nonexistent issues.  His director brother Mohan raja interfered in the shooting and asked the director to change so many things in the movie.  This pumped up the movie budget heavily.  Basically Ravi and raja tried to portray Ravi as a larger than life action hero in charan’s money.  If Charan says no, ravi wouldn’t participate in the shooting that caused huge production loss to Charan.  At one stage spb himself went to Ravi’s home and personally explained the financial crisis they are experiencing because of shooting delays and asked Ravi to finish the movie as per the original agreement.  Ravi didn’t listen to spb and followed what raja said.  The result was spb had to sell his lot of assets in and around chennai for the movie.  

By the end of the shooting, Charan had incurred the production cost multiple times than initially budgeted.  When the movie released, it became a huge flop that put spb in even more debt and sold off more assets.  Charan went into mild depression because of that.  To help Charan to recover from that he let Charan to produce another low budget movie to recover some loss from the movie mazhai.  Thus the movie chennai 600028 started with only new faces in all the departments except music director yuvan Shankar raja.  That movie was a moderate hit and immediately he continued with few other movies.  All have failed except saroja.  The result was more loss, more debts and more sell off assets.  SPB almost became empty handed.  He was making money only from the TV musical shows as judge and singing in albums.  

In the meantime Charan was alleged by actress sona Hayden for sexual harassment, that made charan’s wife to file for a divorce.  That put spb in shame publicly and he had to visit actress sona in the hospital and apologize for charan’s behaviour.  Only then sona withdrew the case against Charan.  By that time charan’s wife went to her parents home permanently separated from Charan.  SPB was dejected as he wanted Charan to do well in his life.  Charan couldn’t settle down in USA, lost wealth in film production and separated from his wife all these put spb in deep trouble.  SPB found a middle class girl in his relation and got her married to Charan second time in a hush-hush manner privately.  In a way, jayam Ravi and his brother Mohan raja were the primary reason for spb downfall.  They both know that very well that’s why they didn’t condole for spb’s death.

The world number one social networking company Facebook Silicon City is planning to open its office in Bangalore. The company will be set up at 2.2 lakh sq ft space at Embassy Golf Link, Bangalore, with a total of 2,200 people preparing for employment.
