WhatsApp privacy policy: Why it won’t limit functionality anymore

Now, those who have not yet accepted the 2021 privacy policy can continue to use the messaging app without losing any functionality.

WhatsApp will now not limit the functionality of the messaging application if you do not accept the new privacy policy. This is good news for those who weren't ready to accept the new update yet. Earlier this month, the Facebook-owned company claimed that users will begin to lose access to most features if they don't accept the policy after May 15.

Now, those who have not yet accepted the 2021 privacy policy can continue to use the messaging app without losing any functionality. "Given the recent discussions with various authorities and privacy experts, we want to make it clear that we will not limit the functionality of how WhatsApp works for those who have not yet accepted the update," a WhatsApp spokesperson told The Verge. The company also said that this "is the plan that moves forward indefinitely."

In a blog post, WhatsApp confirmed that the majority of users who have seen the new privacy policy update have already accepted it. Additionally, those who have not yet accepted the policy will continue to receive reminders.

"We will continue to display a notification on WhatsApp that will provide more information about the update and will remind those who have not had the opportunity to do so to review and accept it. We currently have no plans for these reminders to become persistent and limit the functionality of the application. "Said WhatsApp.

The new policy refers to the messages you send to companies via WhatsApp that will also be shared with Facebook. This basically means that messaging a business on WhatsApp is not the same as chatting one-on-one with your friends and family. Personal chats will remain private and cannot be accessed by anyone, as the platform is end-to-end encrypted.

WhatsApp has even clearly mentioned that it won’t delete your account if you don’t accept the update.
