One interesting fact for our knowledge Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata was once, travelling to Germany. As he stood there, at the door of his First Class Cabin in the Steam-liner, he noticed a lot of activity on the lower decks of the Ship.  On enquiring, he learnt that a great Indian Saint Shri Swami Vivekananda was on board the same ship. Out of genuine respect and curiosity J.N. Tata decided to pay a visit to the great saint. Swami Vivekananda had of-course heard about the respected industrialist. As the conversation grew J.N. Tata explained that he was on his way to Germany. "I have with me sacks of soil : From various parts of India. I am taking these samples of soil to Germany. I wish to know if Iron can be extracted profitably from any of these districts." said J.N. Tata to the Saint. To which Swami Vivekananda replied, "Well, Sir, Even if these sacks contain Iron-rich soil, do you honestly believe that the Germans will tell you the TRUTH??? You must understand that No...

Chairman, TATA Steel was holding a weekly meeting with Tata Steel staff in Jamshedpur.

A worker took up a serious issue. He said the quality and hygiene of toilets for the workers was very bad. Whereas, he  pointed that the cleanliness and the hygiene of executive toilets was always very good.  Chairman asked his top executive how much time he needs to set it right. The executive asked for a month to set it right.  Chairman said "I would rather do it in a day. Send me a carpenter." Next day, when the carpenter came, he just ordered the sign boards to be swapped.  The sign board on the workers’ toilet displayed "Executives" and the Executives’ toilet displayed "Workers”. Chairman then instructed this sign to be changed every fortnight. The quality of both the toilets came at par in the next three days. The Leadership is something much more than being an Executive *Learning from this message.. Problem identification requires critical thinking But Problem solution just requires creative thinking

A Very Interesting Story Must Read and Think...!

A Very Interesting Story Must Read and Think...! One Sunday morning, a wealthy man sat in his balcony enjoying sunshine and his coffee when a little ant caught his eye which was going from one side to the other side of the balcony carrying a big leaf several times more than its size. The man watched it for more than an hour. He saw that the ant faced many obstacles during its journey, paused, took a diversion and then continued towards destination. At one point the tiny creature came across a crack in the floor. It paused for a little while, analyzed and then laid the huge leaf over the crack, walked over the leaf, picked the leaf on the other side then continued its journey. The man was captivated by the cleverness of the ant, one of God’s tiniest creatures. The incident left the man in awe and forced him to contemplate over the miracle of Creation. It showed the Greatness of the Creator. In front of his eyes there was this tiny creature of God, lacking in size yet equipped with a bra...

It's a real pity that today's young Indians are being denied the real essence of Deepavali which was being enjoyed by earlier generations in the form of fireworks, even till as recently as just a few years ago. Among all the available firework brands, one particular brand which had become synonymous with firecrackers, was the Sivakasi based "Standard Fireworks".  The roots of Standard Fireworks Ltd can be traced all the way back to 1942, when NRK Rajarathnam, a highly dynamic & ambitious young entrepreneur established Rajarathnam Industries to produce "safety matches" (matchbox) at Sivakasi. Soon, he noticed that most of the firecrackers sold in the market were shoddy, with very high defective rates. That's when he came up with the idea of venturing into the firecrackers segment as well, with focus on very high quality standards, and thus aptly named it "Standard".  Word soon spread about this new brand in which "Not even a single crac...

*Be rich & happy from within*

I got on to the bus. But seeing the crowd inside, I  was scared. There was no place to sit. At that moment, a seat became vacant. The next person could have easily occupied it. Instead he offered me that seat. Next stop. Same thing happened. Again he gave his seat to another person.  I was observing him... this happened for four times in our entire bus journey. The man looked tired, he must have been going home after his job. In last stop, we all got off. Out of curiosity I spoke to him.  Asked why you were giving your seat to another every time ??  The interesting answer he gave was I haven’t studied at all or have much money. I have nothing to give, neither knowledge, nor money. This is the only thing which I can do for others, easily. So I do this everyday. Though working for all the day,  I can still stand for a little longer. When I gave you the seat, you said thank you. I felt very happy. I believe I'm contributing to the best of my abilities. Doing someth...

In the mid 1920s, a brilliant young man felt suddenly confused & disappointed. Born in a tiny village where most of his friends spent their time playing in muddy waters, this shy, introverted boy preferred to regularly walk deep into the woods and read popular English literature under the cool breeze of banyan trees. Soon, he began to compose his own poems, and by the age of 15, he had already published his own booklet of short English poems. As he moved to a bigger city to pursue higher education, he continued publishing more poems & plays, and his literary charm impressed many, including his University Professors who had no hesitation in hailing him as the next Wordsworth or Milton. However, things took a U-turn when this young man gifted his latest composition of poems to a very Popular Visiting Professor at the University, and sought his honest feedback. While the Professor acknowledged the young man's efforts in expressing his creativity in a "foreign language", he then went on to ask him why couldn't he do the same in his own language so that he could primarily reach out to his own people. That feedback actually disappointed the young man, because it meant setting aside his deep passion for English literature, and to freshly start working on his own language. After a lot of introspection, he felt that advice was right, and took the plunge as a Kannada poet. Within years, he produced some of the greatest Kannada literary works, including his Magnum-Opus based on Hindu Epics, for which he was identified as one of the earliest Poets in India to be honored with the highly coveted Jnanapeetha Award. That young man's name was Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa (Kuvempu).

Sachets can be found for various products, ranging from shampoos to toothpastes, which are not only a boon to travelers, but also to rural households who prefer them due to economic reasons and usage patterns. How & when did sachets become such an integral part of India? The origins of the sachet revolution in India can be traced all the way to the 1970s, when Chinni Krishnan, an agriculturist, had begun to notice a growing divide in consumption patterns between rural & urban. While on the one hand, the urban dwellers had embraced products like shampoo, cream, etc as part of their normal lifestyle, on the other hand, the rural masses couldn't afford to try them even sparingly, because those packs usually came in large sizes like 1 kg, 500 ml etc, which raised the entry barrier.  Tha...

Most youngsters born in the 21st century would be surprised to find that there was a time when the law of the land mandated every manufacturer to equip bicycles with a "cycle lamp", and every cyclist, apart from having a licence to own a bicycle, had to light it while riding after sunset. Violating the law would result in a traffic cop confiscating the bicycle, and the "offender" had to pay hefty fines at courts the next day, to retrieve his bicycle.   In the first half of the 20th century, the lamps used were popularly called "Carbide lamps" which had a lower chamber regularly refilled with calcium carbide, and an upper chamber refilled with water. As the water trickled down and reacted with calcium carbide, it released acetylene gas, which in turn acted as a fuel for the flame, whose brightness could be adjusted by varying the flow of water through a regulator tap.  By the 1960s, as kerosene was distributed at highly subsidized prices through ration shop...

Downfall of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam *SPB*

Image
SPB life was not all that hunky dory in the past 15 years or so.  The reason is his son Charan.  After getting his daughter married to a business family Shri Ram chit funds and have her settled in USA, he wanted charan to study and settle down in USA as well.  Charan studied MBA in USA but returned back to India and moreover wanted to venture into films production (a risky business).  SPB had produced a successful film “Hello Brothers” but was not regular in production.   Charan took production in his hands and paid a hefty amount to remake the Telugu hit prabhas and Trisha starrer “varsham” in Tamil.  Those days jayam Ravi and his brother Mohan raja combo had delivered two successful remake films in Tamil, jayam and kumaran s/o mahalakshmi.  So, Charan signed up jayam Ravi and in place of Trisha he signed up shreya since Trisha was busy that time.  He named the movie as “mazhai” and started the shooting.  Jayam Ravi gave a tough time to...

Indian Rivers and Water Resources

Image
Rivers ! They are the veins, arteries and capillaries of Bharatiya Dharmic civilization, even before the nation India is formed. They are the bloodlines that shaped Bharatavarsha and enabled the ancient Rshis like Marichi, Atri, Bhrgu, Angiras, Pulaha, Pulastya and Kratu to discover the cosmic system of living vuz. Sanatana Dharma. This discovery the passed on through Vasistha, Agastya, Parasara, Vyasa and Valmiki to reach us through their works called the Mahabharata, Ramayana and the Puranas.  Ganga with Yamuna forms the largest river network of Bharata as seen in the map with light blue color.  The Ikshwakus at Sarayu central to Ramayana and the Bharatas at Ganga-Yamuna central to the Mahabharata both are from the Ganga river network. This network contains almost 70% of all kingdoms mentioned in the Mahabharata and Ramayana  like Kuru,  Panchala, Kashi, Kosala, Videha, Malla, Magadha, Anga, Vanga, Pundra, Suhma, Lauhiti, Dasarna, Chedi, Karusha, Matsya, Kunti, Ava...

Out of every 100 startups, only 2-3 survive, RG Chandramogan, we realize that luck factor is just 1% while hard work & perseverance is 99%.

Most of us would have come across hard-hitting statistics which suggests that out of every 100 startups, only 2-3 survive, while the rest 97 fade into obscurity. Looking at such data, one cannot help but wonder if entrepreneurship is just a big gamble where only a few lucky survive. However, when we look at the struggles of entrepreneurs like RG Chandramogan, we realize that luck factor is just 1% while hard work & perseverance is 99%.  Exactly 50 years ago, after dropping out of college, Chandramogan decided to venture into some business where he could "make it big". With Rs 13,000 as funding from his parents (who in turn had sold their ancestral property and family jewelry to arrange those funds for him), he started a tiny factory to produce ice-creams, which he aptly named "Arun ice-creams"  (In Tamil, Arun means Sun). Every morning, Chandramogan loaded all the ice-creams from his tiny factory, into an ice-cream cart, and would manually push the cart for 12 h...

A group of friends visited to old hindu monk Conversation soon turned to complaints about 'STRESS' & 'TENSION' in life. Monk offered them coffee & returned from kitchen with coffee in different kinds of cups (glass cups, crystal cups, shining ones, some plain looking, some ordinary n some expensive ones.) When all of them had a cup in hand, the Monk said: "If YOU noticed, all the nice looking & expensive cups are taken up, leaving behind the ordinary ones. Everyone of YOU wanted the best CUPS, & that is the source of YOUR STRESS & TENSION. What YOU really wanted was "Coffee", not the "Cup", but YOU still went for the best Cup. If life is Coffee, then Jobs, Money, Status & Love. . . .etc are the Cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. Don't let the CUPS drive YOU.  Enjoy the COFFEE. Have a wonderful Life ahead.🙏

Two aspiring law students, belonging to the general category, have moved Calcutta High Court with a writ petition challenging the constitutionality of the law mandating 30% domicile reservation for admission in West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS).

Two aspiring law students, belonging to the general category, have moved Calcutta High Court with a writ petition challenging the constitutionality of the law mandating a 30% domicile reservation for admission in West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS). Being prospective candidates at NUJS, these students from Delhi and Mathura have challenged the vires of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (Amendment) Act, 2018 (Amending Act) which introduces Section 4A to the original WBNUJS Act, 1999. This amendment necessitates reservation for students domiciled in the state of West Bengal to the extent of at least 30% of the total admissions from the academic year 2020-21. The petitioners outrightly contend that the Amending Act is in violation of their rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 15, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of India. Thus it is sought that the amended provision is struck down as unconstitutional and the notification issued by the Unive...

Some guiding principles for a good life:

Be in alignment with what’s most important to you (your values). Do not change because of what others want, change because of what you want. Be making decisions based on what you really want for yourself. Don't be influenced by your fear of the consequences. Your decisions are meant to empower others, not control them. Honor people where they are, not where you want them to be. Make decisions based on who you are and want to be, not who you were. Fulfill your needs first so you have enough to give to others. Question fears that you have held onto since childhood. Your fear, anger, or upset in the moment could be an old emotional trigger and may not have the same meaning as it once did. When someone triggers you, focus on healing yourself, not changing them. What you want is just as important as what other people want. Be compassionate to yourself first, then to others. You don’t have to wear your emotional armor all the time. People can hurt you only if you let them take my power. ...
